Teaddict Hong Kong Style Yuan Yang

Yuan Yang is definitely a drink that is unique to Hong Kong. It is basically what its name suggests, in Chinese yuan yang (鴛鴦) means half and half, so yuan yang is coffee with tea. Yes, you heard it right, tea mixed with coffee, which gives it that strong coffee aroma together with the silkiness of Hong Kong milk tea, giving you the ultimate caffeine boost necessary in a busy city like Hong Kong. There is actually a Cantonese saying for brewing yuan yang in the perfect ratio, 七茶三啡適量奶 ‘70% tea, 30% coffee and just the right amount of milk’.

Each Teaddict 100g Yuan Yang Tin comes with a bag of tea leaves & ground coffee mixed in the perfect proportion, as well as a home-edition mini “silk stocking”, so that you can recreate your perfect cup of Hong Kong Yuan Yang at home!

Brewing method:

1. Add 4 teaspoons of tea leaves & coffee ground mix (8g) into the mini tea strainer (included in the set).

2. Place the mini tea strainer into a small tea pot. Pour 200ml of boiling water over the yuan yang mix.

3. Cover the teapot and let it infuse for 5 minutes.

4. Add 30ml of evaporated milk and 5g of white sugar into a cup.

5. Finally, pour the yuan yang through the mini tea strainer into the tea cup containing milk and sugar. Your perfect cup of yuan yang is ready!
